Professional Development for Educators & Teaching Artists
We have created a series of in-depth theatre arts professional development workshops designed to deeply engage teachers and teaching artists in the area of theatre and language arts integration. To build a body of shared knowledge in drama and to strengthen the collaboration between teachers and teaching artists, we have developed three distinct workshops:
STAGE ONE
Process: Community-Building through Drama
This workshop guides participants through interactive dramatic activities to learn how to establish a strong community of learners in the classroom with an emphasis on oral language development.
STAGE TWO
Integration: Drama to Enrich Your Literacy Program and Bring Text to Life
This is an interactive workshop filled with creative activities teachers can use to put some fun into the reading and language arts curriculum. Through practical, hands-on activities, teachers will learn to integrate dramatic games into their literacy program with a focus on word work, reading comprehension, and writing. Participants work from a grade-level text to bring narrative story elements to life in a holistic and meaningful way in order to help students deepen literacy skills.
STAGE THREE
Product: Using Dance, Music, and Visual Art to Create Theatre
Teachers learn how to create original dramatic performances with their students incorporating multiple art forms.
FAMILY DRAMA NIGHTS
StageWrite teaching artists come to school sites and lead fun drama games that build community and deepen relationships between school staff, families, students, and community members.
